𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗔𝘇𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗤𝗟 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀

Connecting 𝗔𝘇𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗤𝗟 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲 to 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼 is a powerful way to streamline cloud-based development. Below are the steps I followed to establish a smooth connection:

𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗔𝘇𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗤𝗟 𝘁𝗼 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼:

• 𝟭. 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝘇𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗤𝗟 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲

  • Log in to the Azure portal and create a new SQL server and SQL database.

• 𝟮. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀

  • Go to "Set Server Firewall" in Azure and add your client IP address to allow access.

• 𝟯. 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴

  • Navigate to your Azure SQL database, open the “Connection strings” tab, and copy the ADO.NET string.

• 𝟰. 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝗤𝗟 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗢𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼

  • In Visual Studio, go to View > SQL Server Object Explorer and select Add SQL Server.

• 𝟱. 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘇𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗤𝗟 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀

  • Paste the server name from Azure, choose "SQL Server Authentication," and enter your login credentials.

• 𝟲. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲

  • After connecting, you can create queries, manage tables, and perform CRUD operations right from Visual Studio.

This setup allows you to manage and interact with cloud-hosted SQL data directly within your development environment—helping you work faster and more efficiently.
